Independence is a difficult thing to achieve. There is no path that leads to it, and it is not invincible. Consistent, hard work goes into achieving any sort of independence and it is a commendable feat. Unfortunately, in our cutthroat, commercial, money-driven world, it is not recognized. Moreover, Western--and particularly American--ideologies and media dominate modern Indian culture; there is a visible migration towards Hollywood and its European counterparts.

Our purpose is to promote the works of Indian artists, who brave the omnipresent Bollywood structure to create their own, independent movies. This website showcases the best of Indian cinema, and features films in a variety of languages, made by directors from all over the country. The idea was to compile a list of indie films that have been commended for their unique styles and stories, and build from there. What started as an archive for subtitles now hosts a wide range of film-related content, complete with data about the history of independent cinema, the laborious process of filmmaking, and even Indian film festivals and film clubs!

In our quest to build this website, we learnt of so many different people and films that have positively influenced the movie landscape in the country, and have made it our mission to share as much of it as possible with the world. Thus, as you navigate your way through this website, we urge you to keep in mind the immeasurable effort that goes into making something original, to appreciate it, and to respect the works of art that are born as a result of the sweat and tears of countless unsung heroes.
